Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains how [Legal Entity Name] ("we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal data when you use the JioAstro prototype (the "App") on the Google Play internal testing track. We are committed to handling your data in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and applicable rules. Please read this Policy together with the JioAstro Terms & Conditions.

1. Who we are (Data Fiduciary)

For the purposes of the DPDP Act, the Data Fiduciary is [Legal Entity Name], [Registered Address]. Our Grievance Officer / Data Protection Officer can be contacted using the details in Section 12.

2. Information we collect

Depending on the features you use, we may collect the following categories of data:

  • Account and identity data: name, mobile number, email address, and any profile details you provide.
  • Birth details: date of birth, time of birth and place of birth, which are used to generate your birth chart and astrological insights.
  • Chat and interaction data: the questions, prompts and messages you send to the AI-astrologer feature, and the responses generated.
  • Device and technical data: device model, operating-system version, unique device or installation identifiers, app version, language, and crash/diagnostic logs.
  • Usage data: features used, screens viewed, taps, session duration and other analytics events, collected to understand how the prototype is used.
  • Location data (optional): with your permission, approximate location (for example to infer place-of-birth or regional content); you can decline or withdraw this.
  • Feedback: bug reports, ratings and suggestions you choose to submit.

A note on sensitive inferences. Astrological content can touch on personal themes such as relationships, career, family and wellbeing. Insights are generated for guidance and entertainment only. We do not use the App to profile you for health, credit or any decision that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • provide the App's core features, including generating birth charts, insights, remedies and AI chat responses;
  • authenticate you and maintain your session and preferences;
  • operate, test, debug, secure and improve the prototype, and diagnose crashes and errors;
  • understand usage patterns and measure the performance of features during testing;
  • respond to your feedback, questions and grievances; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

4. AI processing and model use

  1. Your prompts and certain inputs may be sent to AI models (which may be operated by us or by third-party AI providers) to generate responses. We take steps to limit the personal data shared with such providers to what is needed to deliver the feature.
  2. During internal testing, chat transcripts and interactions may be reviewed by authorised team members to evaluate quality, fix issues and improve the App. Where practical, such review is carried out on de-identified or minimised data.
  3. We will obtain your consent before using your identifiable birth details or chat data to train or fine-tune machine-learning models, and you may withdraw that consent at any time.

5. Legal basis and consent

We process your personal data on the basis of the consent you provide when you agree to this Policy and use the App, and, where applicable, for legitimate uses permitted under the DPDP Act. Providing birth details is optional; however, some features will not function without them. You may withdraw consent as described in Section 8, though this may limit your ability to use certain features.

6. Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it only as follows:

  • Service providers: with service providers and processors (for example cloud hosting, analytics and AI providers) who process data on our behalf under appropriate obligations of confidentiality and security;
  • Affiliates: with other entities within our group for the purposes described in this Policy;
  • Legal and safety: where required by law, court order or a governmental authority, or to protect rights, safety and security;
  • Business transfers: in connection with a corporate transaction such as a merger or reorganisation, subject to this Policy.

7. Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law. Because this is a test build, data collected during testing may be deleted at the end of the testing period or earlier once it is no longer needed. When data is no longer required, we will delete or anonymise it in accordance with applicable law.

8. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, including the DPDP Act, you may have the right to:

  • access a summary of the personal data we process about you and how we process it;
  • request correction, completion or updating of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request erasure of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements;
  • withdraw consent previously given, with effect for the future;
  • nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity; and
  • raise a grievance and, if unsatisfied, approach the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

9. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction, appropriate to a prototype environment. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your device and credentials secure.

10. Children's privacy

The App is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it.

11. Data location, transfers and third-party links

  1. Your data is primarily processed in India. Where any processing occurs outside India (for example via a service provider), we will do so in accordance with applicable law and only where appropriate safeguards are in place.
  2. The App may contain links to or integrations with third-party services. This Policy does not cover their practices; please review their privacy policies separately.

12. Grievance Officer and contact

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the DPDP Act, JioAstro will designate a Grievance Officer / Data Protection Officer whose name and contact details will be published within the App and updated here before publication.

We will acknowledge and address grievances within the timelines prescribed under applicable law.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version within the App and update the "Last Updated" date. Material changes will be notified by reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect indicates your acceptance of the updated Policy.
